Advantages of non-asbestos gaskets
Compared with traditional asbestos gaskets, non-asbestos types provide:

Free of asbestos, non-toxic, harmless to people and the environment; complies with modern environmental regulations and eliminates asbestos-related health risks (e.g. carcinogenicity).
2. Excellent sealing performance
Good compressibility/recovery and impermeability prevent leakage even under high temperature & pressure.
3. Strong chemical resistance
Resistant to oils, acids, fuels, steam, etc.; suitable for petrochemical, power-generation, marine and similar industries.
4. High temperature capability
Generally withstands up to 400 °C; some grades even higher, meeting the sealing needs of hot equipment.
5. Easy installation & low maintenance
Simple design, quick to fit and replace, long service life, reduced downtime and cost.

How should a buyer judge whether an insulating gasket meets requirements?
Buyers should evaluate insulating gaskets from the angles of appearance, dimensions, electrical properties, mechanical properties, thermal ageing behaviour, etc., and give priority to products that carry third-party test reports and certification. Details are given below.
1. Visual & dimensional check (basic)
- Surface flat, free from cracks, blisters, inclusions, pits, folds;
- Thickness uniform, tolerance ≤ ±10 % of nominal;
- Edges clean, no obvious burrs or damage;
- Colour uniform (red, green, black as applicable), no objectionable odour (especially for synthetic-rubber types).
2. Electrical insulation performance (key indices)
- Withstand-voltage test: no breakdown at specified voltage (e.g. 3.5 kV, 15 kV) for 1 min;
- Breakdown voltage: top-grade sheets ≥ 20 kV mm-1;
- Volume resistivity: ≥ 10¹² Ω cm;
- Insulation resistance: ≥ 10¹² Ω (some high-end grades ≥ 5 GΩ).
3. Mechanical properties (service life)
- Tensile strength & elongation at break: the higher the better-indicates toughness;
- Compression set: reflects recovery; quality sheets show recovery ≥ 70 %;
- Hardness: select as required, commonly 30-60 Shore A;
- Puncture resistance: > 20 N for mechanically stressed applications.
4. Thermal ageing & environmental resistance
- Air-oven ageing (e.g. 70 °C × 72 h): tensile-strength loss ≤ 10 %;
- Damp-heat test (e.g. 85 °C / 85 % RH): property decay ≤ 10 %, no blistering, chalking or cracking;
- Thermal-shock cycling: stable performance after high/low-temperature cycles;
- Oil-exudation rate: ≤ 3 % for thermally conductive grades, ≤ 1.5 % for high-thermally-conductive types.
5. Environmental & regulatory compliance
- Odour-free, halogen-free, heavy-metal-free, meeting RoHS, REACH, ELV, etc.;
- Conform to HG 2949-1999 "Electrical insulating rubber sheets", IEC 61111, ASTM D 178 or equivalent standards.
6. Purchasing recommendations
a) Ask the supplier for third-party test reports (SGS, TÜV, CNAS, etc.);
b) Confirm that the grade matches the application (voltage class, thickness, medium);
c) Prefer brands with proven industry experience and good reputation;
d) Verify samples: commission a local lab or perform in-house voltage/resistance tests;
e) Sign a quality agreement covering warranty, returns and replacements.
