Cg/Cgi/R/Rir Spiral Wound Gasket for B16.5 Flange
Spiral wound gaskets are an essential component in the piping and plumbing industry. They are primarily used to seal joints between two flanges in a pipeline system. Spiral wound gaskets are known for their high strength, durability, and flexibility. They can withstand high temperatures, pressure, and corrosive environments, making them a popular choice in various industries.
The CG, CGI, R, and RIR spiral wound gaskets are four types of spiral wound gaskets commonly used with B16.5 flanges. The B16.5 flange standard is a widely accepted standard for pipe flanges and flanged fittings in North America. The gaskets used with these flanges must be compatible with the standard to ensure proper sealing and efficient operation.
The CG spiral wound gasket is the basic type of spiral wound gasket. It is constructed of a metal winding and filler material. The metal winding is typically made of stainless steel or other corrosion-resistant metals. The filler material can be graphite, PTFE, or other materials depending on the application. CG gaskets are suitable for a wide range of applications, including high temperature and pressure environments.
The CGI spiral wound gasket is an improved version of the CG gasket. It has an additional inner ring that prevents the gasket from buckling or shifting during installation. The inner ring is typically made of the same material as the winding, and it adds to the gasket's stability and strength. CGI gaskets are commonly used in high-pressure applications, such as oil and gas pipelines.
The R spiral wound gasket is designed to provide better sealing in low-pressure and temperature applications. It has a softer filler material, such as flexible graphite, that conforms to the flange's surface. The metal winding is also thinner than in the CG and CGI gaskets, allowing for greater flexibility. R gaskets are suitable for use with B16.5 flanges in low-pressure environments.
The RIR spiral wound gasket is similar to the R gasket but has an additional inner ring. The inner ring provides additional support and stability to the gasket, making it suitable for use in higher pressure and temperature applications than the R gasket.
In conclusion, the CG, CGI, R, and RIR spiral wound gaskets are essential components for piping and plumbing systems. They are designed to provide a high level of sealing and durability in a wide range of applications. Choosing the right type of spiral wound gasket for a specific application is crucial to ensure proper sealing and efficient operation. When selecting a spiral wound gasket, it is essential to consider factors such as temperature, pressure, chemical compatibility, and flange type to ensure optimal performance.
Basic Type
Basic construction type, inner and outer diameters are reinforced with several piles of metal without filler to give greater stability and better compression characteristics. - Suitable for tongue and groove, male and female or grooved to flat face flange assemblies.
Inner Ring Type
Solid inner metal ring acts as a compression stopper. To prevent accumulation of solids, reduce turbulent flow of process fluids and minimize erosion, damages of gasket between flange bore and the inside diameter, the annular space is filled up by solid inner metal ring. - Suitable for male and female pipe flanges.
Outer Ring Type
Solid outer ring accurately locates the gasket on the flange face to give the additional radial strength to prevent the gasket blowout and acts as a compression limiter. In case of installing the outer ring, it is very easy to install the gasket to flange face because the end of outer ring will touch at bolts - Suitable for use with flat face and raised face flanges. For class 900 and above an internal ring is recommended.
Inner & Outer Rings Type
A inner ring and outer ring type gasket will give an additional compression limiting stopper for gasket inner and outer side. It will prevent the corrosions on flange face at annular space. - Suitable for use with flat face and raised face flanges and specified for high pressure / temperature service - Class 900 and above or where corrosive or toxic media are present.
Typical Applications
Pipe, valve, pump, thermal exchange, condensing tower, plain hole and man hole of flange, etc. Petrochemical, chemical, mechanical manufacturer, power station, metallurgy, shipbuilding, medical and pharmaceutical unclear power station and navigation, etc.
